Welcome to the Sussex County Table Tennis Association Website (SCTTA) & Welcome to a new Table Tennis Season!

This website started in April 2013. It contains information and TT news that impacts the County of Sussex and also seeks to promotes TT within the County. The County Objectives are all detailed in the SCTTA Annual County Plan which can be found below along with information about SCTTA. 21st August - Doreen Foreman

The following was received from Andy Hayes on behalf of the East Grinstead League:

East Grinstead TT League members and several top players from other local leagues, attended the funeral of Doreen Foreman who sadly died recently, following a long illness. Doreen was a Sussex County Vice President and the mother of Russell and Dale Foreman who followed in her footsteps and became accomplished players. Doreen played up to the age of 80 and was a multiple winner of East Grinstead League Tournaments and, in her younger days, won championships in Redhill & Reigate, and was a consolation winner in the Sussex Closed. Often playing with her sons and other top local players she was particularly successful in women's singles and mixed doubles event. Her committee work for table tennis, including running tournaments for the East Grinstead League spanned over 45 years. Doreen was known by all local players and respected for her playing ability, sporting attitude and good humour and will sorely missed.

14th August - Sussex Cadet & Junior Trials - 8th September

The Sussex County Trials has been set for Sunday 8th September at the Triangle Leisure Centre from 10 am to 4 pm and are being run by Peter Baldwin and the aim is to produce a ranking enabling selection for County Coaching and participation in Sussex County Cadet & Junior Matches. 14th August - Hastings League - L1 Coaching Course

The Hastings League are actively organising a Level 1 Coaching Course and although not finalised in terms of venue (likely to be in Hastings) and date - the provisional dates are the 21st September and 20th October. If you are interested in attending them please contact Keith Lindsay, who is the coaching and development officer for the Hastings League, on This email address is being protected from spambots. 14th August - Sussex County - Invitation Event


This event is generally held every year where top ranked players in the County compete for Senior, Cadet and Junior (both Men and Women) Cups. Unfortunately, for various reasons this was not held last season. For the coming season it has been set for Sunday 15th September at the Triangle Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill. More detail will be forthcoming soon.

12th August - National Council Meeting - 14th September

The TTE AGM agreed to return to 4 National Council (NC) Meetings per year (reduced to two last season), and the first has been scheduled for Saturday 14th September in Milton Keynes. 12th August - Will Bayley in Strictly!

The Paraolympic Champion Will Bayley, who now lives in Sussex and participated in the Sussex Closed in April, is now a participant in Strictly Come Dancing this Autumn. He was also part of the British paraolympic team recently in Tokyo for the Japan Open where he won a Gold in the Men's Class 7 Singles and a Silver with Jocken Wollmert from Germany in the Doubles. That issue also contains information about clothing available from TTE, a vidoe on "The Power of Ping" and a survey on what players want from the Rankings at Local League level. 

12th August - Top Edge & Gertsen Training Camp - October 2019

The Top Edge Team have arranged another camp for the end of October - 25th to 27th - at the St Neots TTC. Please further details along with the booking information here.

12th August - Sussex County TT Association - AGM 2019 - Summary

The Sussex County TT Association held its AGM on the 8th July at Lewes Town Hall. A summary of the meeting can be found here and please see the Contacts Page for the current Management Committee. The first Management Meeting is on the 19th August where the County Plan for the coming season will be discussed nd finalised.

12th August - TT England League Manager

The TTE version of the League Manager was launched in July and on the 9th August a "Guide for Leagues" was issued. It contains information for those setting up as well as managing their TTE Members on the TT Membership Database. The TTE League Manager manages the same fuctionality in a different way from the previous TT365 version and that was to be expected but it is a learning curve! Roles and access can be assigned by Leagues in TT Memberships. The Ranking capability is expected to be available in September and there is currently a Survey on what people would like to see.

12th August - TT England News

The TTE "Over The Net" for 26th July has a link to the results of the recent survey, and in particular to the question "What would you do if you ran TT in England for a day?" The answers were  summarised around Membership, Grassroots/Mass Participation, Young People/Schools, Women/Girls, Coaching & Perfomance. Also in the issue there is a film on the "Power of Ping" to launch a 10-week campaign and starts with how TT was adpoted for activities by Seacroft Grange Care Village. The 2nd August issue contains the launch of TT Kidz for courses this coming Autumn for ages 7-11. It is 8 weeks in duration - Basics, Serving, Backhand (2 weeks), Forehand (2 weeks), Combination, Match Ready. Everyone gets a Kit Bag, Shirt, Bat, Balls, and Activity Book and Stickers. Horsham TTC have already signed up to start 30th September. The issue also contains the squad annoucement for the European Championship, 50% off the cost of "Ping in the Community" package items for Care Homes, Day Centres and Community Groups, and an example of what BeTT has done for Weymouth Junior League support (and the possibly of Adult Pairs League in future). 

12th August - TT England Membership & Benefits

The TTE year runs from August to July and at the TTE AGM at the end of June it was agreed that Membership Fees would remain the same for the coming season at £16 for Adults and £8 for Juniors. Membership enables participationn in Leagues and Competitions whilst covered by Insurance but there are other benefits and the full list can seen here.


12th August - Active Sussex News - July


The latest edition of Active Sussex can be seen here. It contains information about forthcoming Conference on the 19th September, a video of the Specsavers School Games, a free OU Coach Developer's Course, and Round 2 of funding closing 4th November for applications from Community Groups, Charities and Social Enterprises.

26th July - Robin Pierce

Further to the news item below on the 16th July, Tony Catt has advised that the service for Robin Pierce is to take place at Bishop Hannington Church in Neville Avenue, Hove on the 2nd August at 1 pm., followed by the funeral at Woodvale Crematorium South Chapel at 2.30 pm. Donations to the Children's Society. It has apparently been requested that people wear bright colours!

Keith Jackson has also provided some further details about Robin. He was a County Player during the 60's and 70's and also very active for the County itself in the 70's being organiser for the County Inter-League for many years retiring in 1980. He also provided a weekly column for the Brighton & Hove Gazette reporting on the 12 divisions of the Brighton League.

20th July - TTE News

For those who do not subscribe to the TT England Newsletters then the highlights over recent weeks are as follows.

The 050719 edition reports that at the TTE AGM on the 29th June it was agreed that the fees for the new season remain the same - £16 for Adults and £8 for Cadets/Juniors, with a motion calling for fees to be reduced by 50% rejected by a 75% margin. The TTE end of year review (see earlier news item) was also accepted along with the financial reports.There is also a report on the Schools Internationals in Guernsey where Jacob Evans from Sussex participated in the U16's for England B winning a silver (losing to England A). At the same competition Jacob reached the Q/F of the Individual event. There was also information about the new TTE Membership Database and League Manager and the "power of publicity" with the Be TT Programme.

In the 120719 edition there are reports on the Australian Open, where Pitchford reached the last 16, the European Youth Championshps, and the European Vets Championships in Budapest. The World University Games also recently took place in Naples and from Sussex Helshan reached the last 64, Josh Bennett did not progress past the Group Stage but with Tin Tin Ho in the Mixed Doubles reached the last 16

The 190719 edition reports on TT Day (18th July) with information on participation by Rother and Bexhillians Club in Hastings. There is also information about the launch of TT Kidz, which is an 8 week programme with a kitbag of bat, balls and T-Shirt along with an activity book for the players. In Sussex TT Rother looks to have signed up There is also a report on the England Men and Women at the Commonwealth Championships where both ended up with Silver losing in both cases to India in the Finals. A reminder that TTE Memberships is now open for renewal on the new TTE Memberships Database and the new TT League Manager has also been launched. 

10th July - Haywards Heath League Coaching Summer Camp - August 2019

Marc Burman and Dennis Hayden are running a TT Coaching Summer Camp on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th August at Sackville School in East Grinstead. The cost is £40 per day or £120 for 3 days. Please see Booking details and Flyer for the Summer Camp.

16th July - Robin Pierce

Tony Catt has indicated that Robin Pierce, a Sussex County Vice President, passed away on the 9th July. he has been ill since the beginning of this year with dementia and was taken to a place of "safety" just after Easter. Arrangements are being made for his funeral by a friend from a local church since his family are in Bristol and the provisional date is the 2nd August. Further details will be posted here when available. If anyone has further information about Robin and his contribution to TT in the past then please let me know.

10th July - TT Times - Issue 15

The latest issue of Table Tennis Times, produced by Diane and Harvey Webb, can be found here. It contains many stories both very recent and from the past as well as Governance update and forthcoming events. Happy summer reading.,

1st July - TT England - AGM Report

The TTE Annual Conference and AGM took place on the 29th June in Hinckley (see news items below) and Tony Catt, as our National Councillor attended and has produced a Report on the discussions and output from the various Propositions. Please see also the Annual Review Q&A Document distributed by TTE, a Coaching & Officiating Update and the latest Over the Net - 280619 - which contains information about the new TT memebrship Platform being launched soon, along with the final version of the Annual Review Document. For the new TTE League Manager System - links have been made available to Adminstrators to test the new system prior to its launch.
